Some days ago I bought a Mitsumi.com 7in1 Internal Media Drive FA402A to easily store images from my digital camera. Though when I should connect it to the motherboard (ASUS A7V8X) I realized it did not fit physically. Examining the connector more closely revealed that the pinout did not match with the pinout as described in the manual for the motherboard. Calling MicroStore where I bought the reader did not help much. They claimed the reader should work with ASUS motherboards and for sure with MSI motherboards as they had one there working(MS-6596).

I downloaded the MSI 6596 manual to check the pinout and according to the manual it had the exact same pinout as my ASUS motherboard. Strange! After some more calls to MicroStore I finally took the car down to the store bringing the reader with me. It turned out that the manual and the actual motherboard did not match. The motherboard MicroStore had version 20B while the one on MSI’s homepage is only Version 1. So I guess the pinout has changed but not the manuals. Anyway this did not help much. I continued searching the web but did not find any solution that described the strange pinout on the MSI boards, though I found more and more pages indicating how to move cables around in internal USB connectors. Seems to be a common problem to fit internal USB connectors. This page described the colouring most commonly used for internal USB cables and the colouring scheme matched the one on the cable from the reader so maybe that could be a solution. Though I was a bit confused since there were two black cables coming from the reader but checking with an instrument they both were connected to GND. It’s quite easy to to shift around the cables in this kind of connectors so I gave it a try. If you do not know how to do remove and re-insert a cable this page describes how to do it. I moved the cables (one black and the red) that was not in their appropriate position according to my ASUS manual. Also had to move the plug (the one preventing you to put the connector in wrong position) to pin 9. That made the reader fit the connector on my motherboard and it works now!

On our last hike in the mountains I took a number of video shots as well as several still images. Though these turned out to be very shaky so I started to look for some software to correct that.
I found some shareware filters for Adobe Premiere but htey where quite expensive($50 – $70) so I started to search SourceForge for some open source projects. I didn’t find any filters for Premiere but I found Virtual Dub and the Deshaker filter. It turned out to do the job. Compare the unprocessed(11.8MB) file with the processed(2.16MB). VirtualDub also allowed me to compress the files as well.

Det blev en Canon Powershot A70. Fick den precis så jag har inte hunnit plåta så mkt, mest försökt testa en del så jag förstår hur de olika inställningarna påverkar bilden. Men den åker med på fjällvandringen om två veckor så då blir det en del plåtat.
Köpte också extra uppladdningsbara batterier, hittade på Batterilagret batterier med 2000mAh vilket borde göra att det räcker rätt länge. Skall testa i fjällen.
Totalt blev kostade kamera plus undervattens hus ca 5900 kr(3,797 kr för kameran och 2,104 kr för huset, båda inkl moms o frakt). Gick rätt fort att få båda, det som var lite lustigt var att även om jag beställde från två helt olika ställen, Datorbutiken.com(Staffanstorp) och It-Bolaget(Avesta) så kom de båda samtidigt med samma postbud!

Det är svårt att finna den kamera jag vill ha. Har kommit fram till att jag vill ha följande funktioner iaf:

Möjlighet att filma med ljud(min 30 s)
Hyffsat liten
För tillfället(kväll 15:e maj) lutar det mest åt Canon Powershot A70. Enda som oroar mig är storleken på den, annars verkar det vara en mkt bra kamera till mkt bra pris. Kanske skall slå till på den och en UV-hus?

Canon Powershot G3
WOW, kan massor av fräcka saker och tar väldigt bra bilder. Mest imponerande var att fota i nästan totalmörker med 15 sekunder slutartid. Såg ut som det var dagsljus!
Canon Powershot S45
Fick låna Margots kamera en liten kort stund. Bra storlek, möjligen lite tjock. Tar mkt bra bilder och hade många trevliga manuella inställnigar som bländare, slutartid och fokus. Kan också spela in film med ljud. Funktionsmässigt rätt lik G3an, iaf med hänseende av de delar jag testade och tyckte var viktiga. Tex slutartider upp till 15 sekunder och rätt stor bredd på bländaren.
Pentax Optio 430
Sjysst liten kamera, har manuella inställningar men bländaren går bara att ställa i två olika steg vilket jag tycker är för dåligt. Plus att film inspelningen ej har ljud.
